I have a deep, deep affection for hellebores or "Christmas roses" as they're sometimes called. They don't arrive until way after Christmas where I am, but I still look forward to their resurrection each spring. I've had a note in my garden journal for the last three years: plant as many hellebores in the fall as you can possibly afford to. When there isn't a lot to look at and appreciate in the garden, it makes the deep details of a the hellebore all the more magical. That's what I hoped to capture. When it seems bleak, seems dark, seems hopeless, look for the details of beauty.
