Winter is a beautiful time here for us in North Central Washington, but I wouldn't say it's exactly happy. Cozy, sure. But I often find myself on short February days, curled up in blankets and darkness, dreaming of the time we spent living in Southern Alabama, where I would spend the days filling the trunk of my car with grapefruit, lemons, oranges, and kumquats from the citrus trees of Farmer Chip. I often have friends send me boxes of citrus - Claire from Texas, Lacy from Florida, DaNelle from Arizona (all citrus hot-spots) so that I can enjoy the bright, sunny fruit once more. Sometimes it takes a village to pull us through times of darkness - or in this case, just one friend with a box of tangerines.
