The flower mentor I had for a decade often referred to "David" on a first-name basis. I didn't know this David until a few years later when I saw the roses for myself and was swept away by their delicate beauty and old-world fragrance. This is la vie en rose! I began filling my potager with David Austin roses - beginning with Jude the Obscure (the round, apricot-colored ones that smell of ripe fruit) to climb the trellis to the greenhouse gardens. There are now over 30 David Austin roses in my gardens - and I doubt the number will ever stop growing. The diversity of colors and scents is electrifying.
