Any collector of terracotta knows all too well how often the pots break and shatter. I'm sure the fact that I have four children always tumbling around outside in my greenhouse doesn't help, but still. Terracotta is something I'm deeply drawn to so even when a pot shatters, I collect the pieces and pile them around the garden to serve as little bug hotels for beetles and such. I love looking under a piece of broken terracotta with the kids to discover what's been creeping around. These pieces remind me that even though something is broken, it can serve a beautiful purpose in its new form. That's worth remembering.
